This is a documentary recorded to illuminate a series of changes and often unrecorded effects of oil spills as it examines the oil spill in Tae-an Coast on December 7th, 2007. This is a very necessary film, as it illuminates the upcoming second disaster, which might be called a kind of social disaster as it shows the continued effects on children and villagers years later. This film also suggests practical solutions from similar examples of other countries.

ARMS AROUND YOU: PLEASE  HUG ME

Please Hug Me, is a 12 minute documentary by Ciska about the pioneering beginning of the successful AIDS project of the Red Cross Children's Hospital in Cape Town which shows us clearly the magnitude of the horrors of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Southern Africa, which more and more affects young women and their newly born children. The films gives a short but moving image of the tremendous suffering of newly born children who have been infected with the HIV/AIDS virus and the courageous efforts of the medical staff of the Red Cross Children's Hospital to prevent more pregnant HIV infected women from transmitting the HIV virus unto their unborn children.

 

 

ARMS AROUND YOU: THANDEKA ZULU

The film Thandeka Zulu shows the touching story of Thandeka, AIDS infected mother of four children, who lives in appalling poor conditions, but nonetheless finds her strength and comfort in her believe in the Lord and Jesus Christ. A woman who, like Ciska herself who interviews her, has dedicated her life to creating awareness in her community about the dangers of living with HIV/AIDS and who actively believes that abstinence from sex before marriage is the only way to stop the further spread of the virus. Ciska and Thandeka meet in her ramshackle slum dwelling were Thandeka's also entrusts Ciska that her children are fortunately HIV negative thanks to the project of the Red Cross Children's hospital Ciska has helped starting back in 1995. In the long interview Ciska deliberately has left room for Thandeka to take her time and tell her about her living conditions, thus establishing an intimate portrait of this young, unfortunate and yet courageous woman. When leaving her poor dwelling Ciska asked Thandeka, "May I put my arms around you?" And so they stood there silently for a while as silent sculptures in a united fight against AIDS. This question for Ciska has become the slogan for all her projects.

Arms Around You is an overview a short presentation of some of the projects Ciska has developed and initiated since the last couple of years to create awareness all over the world especially amongst young people about the dangers of HIV AIDS. We see Ciska building her 8 meter high colossal sculptures during festivals, there is an overview of an unique project Ciska and the Oleanworld Foundation have developed and initiated to link high school pupils in Cape Town and The Netherlands to work together on the Arms Around You internet competition to come up with creative ideas and solutions to fight the HIV/AIDS pandemic. And we see a short overview of the annual Fine Art Exhibition's Ciska and the Oleanworld Foundation organise in the Town Hall of The Hague put at her disposal for this purpose by the The Hague City Council and Municipality.
